Lemon and Mint Nettle Tea Recipe
Nettle tea has a pleasing taste all it’s own, but new-comers to the world of herbal tea may find the taste a little bland. It’s been compared to slightly bitter hay, in fact, but many people find it soothing. If you aren’t crazy about the taste of plain nettle tea, you can always add honey, or better yet – a little lemon and mint.
This nettle tea recipe yields one cup, but it can easily be doubled or tripled for larger batches. It can be served hot or cold, depending on your personal preference.
Yield: 1 cup
Ingredients:
- 1 cup spring or distilled water
- 1 tbsp. dried nettle leaves
- 1/2 tsp. dried lemongrass
- 1/2 tsp. dried mint leaves
Note: You can use peppermint or spearmint leaves if you desire.
Directions:
- Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Meanwhile, combine the dried nettle leaves, dried lemongrass and mint leaves in a clean coffee mug.
- Pour the boiling water over the herbs, and then cover the mug.
- Allow the nettle tea to steep for about 10 minutes.
- Strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a second clean mug and discard the herbs.
- Add honey to sweeten, if desired, or refrigerate and sweeten before consuming over ice.
Tips:
If lemongrass is not available, omit and use a little freshly squeezed lemon juice instead. Garnish each cup of nettle tea with a fresh mint spring to add visual interest.
